IMG_4328 (2)Thomas and I were married July 23rd, 2016, and our day was just unforgettable. The only thing even more perfect was our free honeymoon. Since we were wedded in the summer, we didn’t want to leave Canada’s already warm climate to head to the beautiful and always warm Varadero, Cuba. Instead, we decided to wait until the brunt of the Canadian winter before heading to the beautiful Iberostar Laguna Azul.

Our room was situated in the most perfect spot! We were far enough away from the hustle and bustle but still on the main floor of the hotel lobby…so getting food and drinks were just steps away. Our room had a great balcony, full Cuban television cable, and a stocked mini fridge with sodas, water, and beer (they never forgot to restock the fridge)! Each day when we would return to our room, there was always a cute towel figure waiting patiently on our bed.

The poolside had such a great view and it was always fun to use the swim-up bar! There was always a snack bar that was opened 24 hours, which made it easy to have a light snack at the poolside or at the beach at any time of the day. The daily dining room buffet always had enough variety so you would always leave satisfied. I always started each morning with a fresh glass of guava juice for breakfast! During the evenings, Thomas and I were entertained at the outdoor theatre, watching Rock ‘n’ Roll themed shows to Vegas-style shows. They were also so well performed and we had such an amazing time!

We did two excursions on our trip, which were booked with the help of Angela, our onsite Transat representative. We chose to do a full day Havana tour where we saw Revolution Square, entered the hotel that Ernest Hemmingway lived in for 7 years, and enjoyed Cuba’s amazing Tropicana night show.

On our way to Havana, we had the most comical tour guide who took us to a pub located at the edge of a 112 metre gorge so we could drink piña coladas right out of the pineapple. On our second excursion, we  rode on a Catamaran to the beautiful Cayo Blanco beach. We tried the most delicious lobster tails, swam in the clearest water, and soaked up some sun in the whitest sand. We swam with the dolphins and got kissed by the best-looking Cuban around, Chubby the dolphin!

Overall, this vacation made our whole wedding experience perfect. After this trip, we have made the decision to go somewhere warm every winter. We both agree that this journey set the bar high for our future trips to come. We owe the biggest thank you to Bridal Confidential, Transat, and Travel Agents in Action for making our honeymoon absolutely perfect!
